Web & Social
Web design and data-driven social media strategy, content, and management, particularly for nonprofits and small businesses.
A few of the services I provide
LaTeX
I have decades of experience with LaTeX typesetting and can create a template for your publishing project, modify an existing template to your specifications, and/or provide consulting, troubleshooting, or final typeset files for publication.
Technical Writing & Editing
Your technical publications should be clean, clear, and precise. I have decades of experience collaborating with SMEs in various areas of engineering and in mathematics and statistics. Clarity is crucial in technical publishing. From white papers to proposal and RFP responses to books, I have the experience and know-how to make your publishing life easier.
Project Management
Technical authors, who already have a heavy workload, are often asked to devote a significant amount of time to reviewing production components and to organizing and collaborating with coauthors, reviewers, and others. With me as your project manager, you can focus on your subject-matter expertise and leave the rest in my hands.
Book Publishing Consulting
For first-time authors, the publishing process can seem like an unknown world with some mysterious entry point, like the wardrobe entry to Narnia. Not to worry! I’ve traveled the entire process many times and can relieve your stress.
Grants, RFPs, & Other Proposals
I’ve collaborated on a broad range of proposals, from grants for nonprofits to government RFPs to proposed ISO changes. Let’s hone your paper to give your pitch its very best chance at being successful.
Writing, Production, Publishing, & More
I’ve collaborated on many kinds of projects and in various roles, from copy writing to production. If you have a story to tell, I’m interested in helping you tell it and have a network of artists, graphic designers, and others who can pitch in.

Whether you have an existing website that just needs a little refreshing or you have a new venture that needs to build a digital presence, we can put a face to your organization utilizing data-driven tools that work toward your goals.
Social Media Strategy, Content, & Mgmt

Testimonials
“As the leader of a consulting company, I rely on Lori to ensure that my client’s public communications (papers, presentations, and books) are crisp and professional. Much more than an editor, Lori manages the process, communicates with publishers, and gently nags team members who are on the hook to deliver material. She is a joy to work with and embodies the best in a tech writer; not only does she address issues such as style, conciseness, and grammar, but she acquires enough knowledge of the subject matter (C++ in our case) that she catches ambiguous statements or even errors in the material.”
Pablo H.
Consulting Company President
“Overall, there are very few people I would trust blindly to take technical words I had written and not only make them vastly more readable to our expected audience, but keep their intent intact — Lori is at the top of that list. (She may even be the entire list.) I am quite certain she could produce similar results for anyone seeking to communicate regularly in English, whether it be through papers, presentations, books, or other media.”
Joshua B.
Senior Software Engineer
“Lori is a highly skilled publications professional. She has been a critical team member on many LaTeX publishing projects over the years and has been a key technical consultant I turn to for best strategies when dealing with complex projects. I can always count on Lori’s depth of knowledge and attention to the smallest detail to help our LaTeX authors during manuscript creation and composition. She is someone I recommend wholeheartedly.”
Julie N.
Content Management Professional
“Lori was exactly the person I knew I would trust as my book editor, designer, and equally important, advisor. Lori directed and took ownership while at the same time partnered with me. This provided me the invaluable ability to focus on my business, while she very capably edited, proofed, fact checked, researched, and provided substantial ideas with remarkable accuracy that resulted in an improved and professional quality publication. Lori also capably managed multiple and significant issues that arose from a third-party vendor. Working with Lori continues to convey confidence and relief: ‘she’s got this completely, ‘she will problem-solve this,’ ‘I don’t need to worry about it,’ ‘she knows what she’s doing.’ She has a great sense of knowing when to check in and when to just deal with a situation herself. Hiring Lori was my best decision on this project.”
Sam J.
Organizational Leadership Specialist
“Lori was an integral part of the creation of our non-profit website. She managed the project from wireframe to rollout, managed conflict and punch lists, and delivered a beautiful site that has been key in growing membership. She was a joy to work with!”
Angela B.
Program/Project Manager
“Lori does excellent work. She is very conscientious on meeting deadlines and taking the initiative. She can take on tasks with little or no supervision. It would be hard to find someone better.”

About Me
Hi and welcome! I’m Lori, and I’m located in the Minneapolis-St Paul metro of Minnesota. I have over two decades of experience in publishing. I planned to study investigative journalism in college, but my advisor during freshman orientation was an English professor whose quip, “Let’s keep you here in the English department,” worked. That investigative curiosity remained, however, which is probably why my experience is so broad.
I love collaborating with subject-matter experts to make their communications more accurate, clear, and precise; grammatical mistakes and awkward wording can actually alter the meaning of a sentence, and that kind of ambiguity is easily avoidable with careful editing. I’ve been referred to as a technologist (I’ll take that!), and I have decades of experience in the areas of electrical engineering, communications engineering, computer engineering, software development, computer science, mathematics, and statistics. Learning new things from these clients is one of the joys of my job.
I have a deep appreciation for first-time authors, micro- and small-businesses, and nonprofits, and helping them succeed is meaningful to me. Publishing a first book is a big deal, and I feel that pride with every new author I work with; I often think of this work like midwifery, bringing a book baby into the world. I enjoy helping micro- and small-businesses and nonprofits establish or refresh their digital presence, starting with setting goals that have measurable objectives and working from there to obtain results, whether that’s growing an audience, increasing engagement, or increasing customers, members, or donations.
